New Moomin book helps women and children in vulnerability
Just in time for the reading holidays, Oxfam is launching a collaboration on the newly published book Moominvalley Alphabet. For every book purchased through Bokus, Bonnier Carlsen and Moomin Characters will donate SEK 5 to Oxfam's work to empower women and children living in poverty and great vulnerability.
Moominvalley's alphabet
In Moominvalley's alphabet, we get an introduction to the alphabet and a tour of the magical Moominvalley. Children's author and poet Annika Sandelin has written a rhyming poem for each letter. They take us on a linguistic adventure where the reader gets to turn, twist and feel how the letters of our alphabet can be used. The illustrations are taken from Tove Jansson's original work about Moomintroll and his family.
"Being able to read is important for being part of a democratic society, and at Bonnierförlagen we always strive for everyone to discover the joy of reading. Books give us inspiration, courage and joy, they develop us and give us different perspectives on the world around us, and are something that every child has a right to."
Ulrika Caperius, responsible for Bonnierförlagens reading promotion work
"We are delighted to be working with Bonnier Carlsen and Moomin Characters to support women and children to improve their lives. Literacy and education are two important factors in giving people a voice and lifting them out of poverty, and this partnership brings that issue to the fore."
Suzanne Standfast, Secretary General of Oxfam Sweden
Working for women and children
Supporting women is an important part of Oxfam's work to fight and eradicate poverty. Women around the world are still denied basic rights such as education, fair pay and decent working conditions. At the same time, they are often left alone with the responsibility of supporting their children.
The money raised from the collaboration with Bonnier Carlsen and Moomin Characters will go to Oxfam's work for women and children like Chhatiya and Nyadok.
