Moomin to help women make their voices heard

October 24, 2017

In collaboration with Moomin Characters, the "Invisible Child" campaign will be launched in November. A new edition of two of Tove Jansson's short stories will be sold to benefit Oxfam's work for women and girls living in poverty.

Scared. Alone. Invisible. This is not only the story of the invisible child, but also the reality of millions of women and girls around the world. Still, the majority of those living in poverty are women, and Tove Jansson's stories are more relevant than ever. Now, Oxfam, Moomin Characters and the publisher are releasing a special edition of the short story collection The Invisible Child to help women and girls struggling against inequality and poverty.

The book will be launched in Sweden on November 20 and SEK 40 per copy sold will be donated directly to Oxfam's women's projects around the world.

The story of the Invisible Child, first published in 1962, is about a little girl who becomes invisible after being mistreated by the woman who cared for her. The girl is taken in by the Moomin family and lives in the Moominhouse where she is treated with warmth and respect. Eventually, she becomes visible again and regains her place in the world - a right that every woman and girl should have.

The fundraiser supports Oxfam's work in the fight against extreme poverty and suffering around the world, with women, girls and their rights at the heart of the campaign. Women are still often denied basic rights such as education, fair wages and decent working conditions. Women and girls are also often the worst affected by disasters, and supporting women is an important part of Oxfam's work to eradicate poverty.

The special edition contains two classic stories by Tove Jansson; The Invisible Child and The Spruce. The book is published in Swedish by Förlaget.
