"Before the drought I had 50 goats"
Due to extreme drought and conflict, millions of people in Ethiopia, Kenya, Somalia and South Sudan are facing acute hunger. Every 36 seconds someone dies, and more than 45 million people are in need of humanitarian aid.
Together with our partners, Oxfam expects to reach over 1.5 million people with emergency food, clean water, hygiene kits, cash assistance, shelter and roofs.
Omar is a cattle farmer in Kenya and father of eight children. He tells us:
"Before the drought, I had 50 goats, seven cows and a donkey. I used to sell the milk, and I used the income to pay for my children's schooling. There was water and pasture. People were healthy. Now all my cows are dead, and I have had to sell a goat to afford schooling for my children."
Omar is one of the beneficiaries of Oxfam's cash grants, thanks to the help of our monthly donors.
"Oxfam has changed our lives. I hold on to faith and hope that our fortunes will turn around in the near future."
